Turning 40? Put on a Show!
Vaydra Alexander will throw herself the ultimate 40th birthday celebration onstage with 30+ dancers and singers
(New York, NY) While other people complain about turning 40, Vaydra Alexander decided to throw herself the ultimate birthday party. On December 10th, 2017, the New York dancer, choreographer, and teacher will produce an extravagant one-afternoon show featuring over 30 dancers and singers performing a wide range of contemporary pop, Latin, musical, and hip-hop songs.
“Yes, I was named Vaydra after Darth Vader.”
The show will open with the theme from Star Wars, a film that premiered the year Ms. Alexander was born. “Yes, I was named Vaydra after Darth Vader,” she explains.

Darth Vader will not be in the new Star Wars movie, but you can see Darth VAYDRA on stage on December 10, 2017.
Performers will first appear in various Star Wars regalia while the birthday girl will engage in a playful lightsaber battle with dancer Ethan Graham, who will also be performing a solo dance to Kesha’s Praying.
Performers include professional dancers Matt Lopez and Melissa Ramos, fitness professionals Mary Onango and Angel Aulet, singer Galit Mor, drag goddess Kia Karr, singer/writer/producer Yashea yBlaze, and musician David Güitonsky.
Ms. Alexander’s choreography will be showcased in a series of high-energy group dance numbers led by herself and principal dancers Natalie Cabrera, Kondis Gray, Robyn Pilger, Michelle Stella, and Angeline Mendez. Dancers will perform to popular songs like Dancing Machine by the Jackson Five, Dessert by Dawin, and Back It Up by Prince Royce, Jennifer Lopez, and Pitbull.
Other dancers include Annette Santos, Chelsea Zhou, Erilia Hao Wu, Evy De Guzman, Galit Sud, Heather Wong, Krystyna Bove, Maria Valdez, Natacha Cruz-Benjamin, Rabi Ade, Rhonda Henders, Rosa Watanabe, and Virgil Wong.
Dancers include a mix of both professionals and beginners. Ms. Alexander teaches Zumba classes at New York Sports Clubs (NYSC) throughout Manhattan, where she invited students to rehearse and eventually perform with her seasoned dance troupe onstage. Virgil Wong, Medical Avatar’s founder and CEO, will dance in nearly every group number and will be featured centerstage as “Papi Chulo” in the Prince Royce song.
“Being referred to as Papi Chulo is kind of hilarious to me,” says Mr. Wong. “Overall, I’m just trying to compensate for my lack of natural dance ability with an ample abundance of energy and enthusiasm. Learning to dance every week with Vaydra, her group of phenomenal dancers, and my fellow students over the past couple of months is the most exhilarating fun I’ve ever had.”
“My teaching is really about absorbing the positive energy of dance to enrich your spirit.”
While classically trained herself, Ms. Alexander focuses her students on the enjoyment of dance and its health benefits over rigid technique. “My teaching is really about how you can move your body to release toxicity from your day,” she explains. “It’s all about absorbing the positive energy of dance to truly rejuvenate and enrich your spirit.”
Ms. Alexander even turned her first name into an acronym: Visualize, Appreciate Your Dance Releasing Ability (VAYDRA).
Darth Vader may be harnessing the dark side of the Force, but Dancer Vaydra is all about channeling the light.
